First Appearance:

Nightwind's Words of Wisdom:

With a name like "Thrust," he has to be good... Wooooooo-eeeeee!

*ahem*

Just kidding! No, seriously, ya wanna know what I like most about Thrust? His eyes. Really! His eyes are yellow. How cool is that? Pretty dang cool, in my book. Why? Because every other Decepticon in the cartoon has red eyes (Well, except Shockwave, but he doesn't count.) I guess that was supposed to reinforce that the Decepticons were bad, the color red often being associated with badness. And in fact, it's been helpful to me in my quest to brainwash--I mean, introduce a friend of mine to the TF cartoon. I've pounded it into her head that if a character has blue eyes, they're a good guy and if they have red eyes, they're a bad guy...errrrr, except for that dark red yellow-eyed jet there. Why is it that all rules have exceptions? And why did Thrust get yellow eyes? At first I thought it was because he was red...but his face is white, so it's not like red eyes would blend in or something... Oh well, it's another of those "I'm Not Meant to Know" things...

But I do know that I like Thrust. And I like him primarily for two scenes. One is in "Megatron's Master Plan," the scene where he goes to fetch the escaped Chip and finally nabs him at Autobot Headquarters. I love it when he busts through the ceiling of Autobot Headquarters...even though I still haven't figured out quite how he managed to do that, given that there's nothin' but solid rock above Autobot HQ. The other is in "Quest For Survival," when he delivers to the Insecticons Megatron's warning to stay away from a valley populated with metal-eating plants. (Don't ask. Just go with it. :) ) He's all sincere and the Insecticons take him the wrong way, anyway! HAH! Poor Thrust... And just in general, I get the sense that Thrust is just one of those guys who'll do anything to suck up to the boss. Just watch him crow about finding the lake of electrum to Megatron, after he'd announced that he was "about to become #1 Decepticon" in "The Golden Lagoon."

In any case, Thrust, like his buddies Ramjet and Dirge, never really gets to do a whole lot in the series, but those little bits communicated his personality to me rather well. And I like it. I like Doleful Dirge a teeny bit better, but Thrust, in my book, is pretty dang cool.

The eyes have it, after all... Not to mention those turbine thingies in his wings... I love those, whatever they are...

The Official Word:

Profile: Rattling the very air with the roar of his jet engines, Thrust is one Decepticon who cares little for the ways of deceit. He believes that half the battle is won if he can "psych out" his enemy by his mere arrival, and so he makes no attempt to be sneaky. His ability to suddenly and powerfully accelerate can literally shake apart a nearby building, and he delights in the havoc that ensues. He is a loud-mouthed braggart who is prone to pompously claim certain victory before a fight has barely begun. But in truth, his courage is as much bluster and noise as his actions and words: a strong counterattack by an opponent usually results in a view of Thrust's tailwings as he recedes into the distance.

Abilities: In jet mode, Thrust can fly at speeds of Mach 2.5, but can accelerate in 20 seconds to twice that speed, which he can maintain for up to two minutes. He carries two concussion bomb missile launchers and two compressed air rifles, each of which can shoot a hole in 1/4 inch-thick steel plate from a distance of 1200 yards.

Weaknesses: Thrust isn't very brave. If he's not careful when rapidly accelerating, his engines can stall, causing him to fall.

Miscellaneous:

Best Place to Thrust-Watch:
I'd say that "Megatron's Master Plan" and "Quest for Survival" are Thrust's best bits. He gets a fair bit of airtime in "The Girl Who Loved Powerglide," too, although it's mostly just chasing Powerglide around, which isn't really character-defining.
