Function:
The Ill-Tempered Dinobot with a permanent case of PMS.

Voice Actor:
Neil Ross

First Appearance:
"S.O.S Dinobots"

Nightwind's Words of Wisdom:

If Grimlock's the Mama Grizzly of the Dinobots, then Slag has to be the badger of the Dinobots. (Hmmm...Guess this means I have to come up with animal analogues for each Dinobot, huh? :) ) Slag's mean, aggressive, and ill-tempered, and he doesn't really care who he offends with his words, his actions, or his overall pissy attitude. In that sense, he's not so much a character as a force of nature...and I love him for that, yes. Although I adore all five Dinobots pretty much equally, I do have a special little place in my heart that's reserved for Slag.

Why? I'm not sure, really. Maybe it's simply because he's my inner bitch personified: Strong, angry, forceful, always spoiling for a fight. And he usually can't be reasoned with, either, just like me when I've got PMS. And I do tend to admire the fact that he does what he wants to do and says what he wants to say without worrying what other people will think about it; I could learn something from that. But I think I like Slag mostly because I tend to feel that his aggression and his tendency to launch "preemptive strikes" are symptoms of underlying vulnerability more than anything else. It's a sort of "hurt before you can be hurt" attitude. Or a "push people away before they can push you away" strategy. It would make sense that he would develop such a thing, given the way that the Autobots generally treat the Dinobots. It would be a defense mechanism against rejection and a reaction to rejection. Understandable, I think.

So, under it all, is it really that Slag just wants to be loved but is afraid of rejection? Maybe. Of course, it could also be that he's just a natural-born bastard as well. :) You decide. Either way, I love him to death.

Hugs for Slag!

The Official Word:

Profile: Maybe Slag enjoys his job too much- after all, a more sensitive Autobot might regret the waste involved in reducing an enemy to a smoldering pool of liquid metal. Not Slag. If his metal hide could take the heat, Slag would swim in the puddle to celebrate. Perhaps even more than his Dinobot brethren, Slag resents the authority of Optimus Prime, and he's not too keen on the other Autobots either. He's generally considered a disruptive force and has been known to get into brawls and turn his fiery breath against his comrades. Nasty and mean-spirited are perhaps the nicest things one can say about him.

Abilities: In Dinobot mode, Slag can spew from his mouth a bolt of 3,000 degrees Centigrade flame up to 80 feet. He possesses enormous strength and can shatter a brick building with a single blow from his armored head. In Autobot mode he carries a high-energy laser rifle.

Weaknesses: Slag is his own worst enemy. His misanthropic personality often persuades some of the other Autobots not to help him when he's in trouble. He's rash and not too bright, qualities which often put him in dangerous predicaments.

Miscellaneous:

Best Place to Slag-Watch:
Slag never really gets a good, character-defining episode. Of the Dinobots, only Grimlock and Swoop get that, really. He's probably at his most-argumentative-with-Grimock best in "War of the Dinobots." But he also has a nice bit in "Call of the Primitives" up in the third season when, thinking that Grimlock's dead, the other Dinobots turn to him for leadership. Interesting, that... ;)

Nightwind's Favorite Slag Quotes:

"Me Slag...want to...fight enemies..."
~Describing himself in "War of the Dinobots"...and that pretty much sums him up, actually...

"Me Slag no like questions from...enemy."
~Telling Optimus Prime to shut up in "War of the Dinobots."

"Excuse me!"
~After squishing a Quintesson in the movie. Who says Slag's not polite? :)
