Nightwind's Words of Wisdom:

Ah, yes...Skywarp. How do I love him? Let me count the ways... First and foremost, I guess I love him because he's basically a blank slate. His TF Universe profile is...er, vague would be a generous description. And his cartoon portrayal, too, leaves most things about his personality open to question, though what it does show, I like. I like it a lot.

Skywarp appears to be a bit on the sarcastically witty side. I can relate. He can sometimes be adorably dense, and I admit there's a side of me that likes my fictional characters big and stupid, though that doesn't translate into real life. It appears that Skywarp has a sense of humor, something that's essential in order for me to really like a character. And it seems that Skywarp likes to like to pick on/tease people, as he teases Rumble in "Fire in the Sky" and Starscream in "Fire on the Mountain." I would say, though, that his sense of humor doesn't appear to be "cruel," as his profile terms it. Rather, I characterize Skywarp as an inveterate practical joker, sort of the "class clown" of the Decepticons...much to the Decepticons' exasperation.

And, finally, it would appear to me that, of the three original jets, Skywarp is the one that Megatron seems to like the most. Megatron compliments his treachery in "The Autobot Run" and, more importantly, never actually insults him, unless you want to call Megatron's remark about being a "dummy" in "B.O.T." I don't think so, though. It seems more like simple exasperation to me. After all, if Megatron really wanted to insult Skywarp, he'd come up with something much more damaging than calling him a dummy. In any event, I suppose Megatron likes his warriors big and stupid, too. Heaven forbid that they should have minds of their own, you know...

And that's about as far as the cartoon goes as far as Skywarp's portrayal is concerned. He's one of those ubiquitous characters who's always standing around in group shots...but it's rare that he gets any lines, much less anything significant to do. So what does that mean to Nightwind? Well, that means that Nightwind will play with his character and torment him like you would not believe. Of the three original jets, Skywarp's the one I've used the most in fanfic. Go figure.

One reason for that, I know, is that there is an obvious friendship between Skywarp and Thundercracker, and I just like that a lot. It exasperates me that, most of the time, the Decepticons in the cartoon are usually shown to be a bunch of nasty back-biters who all hate each other. Except for the combiner groups, where I suppose a sense of camaraderie is inevitable given that they have to share minds and splice their bodies together. But then there's Skywarp and Thundercracker, always together, often bitching and complaining at each other. The dynamic that exists between those two is quite different from the dynamic that exists between either of them and Starscream. So, since Thundercracker is a favorite character of mine — At this point he's close to tying Starscream, if the truth must be known — Skywarp kind of comes along for the ride, and I find myself liking him a lot, as well, and using him in fics in conjunction with Thundercracker.

And then, of course, there's that spiffy paint job of Skywarp's. Starscream and Thundercracker are both combinations of red, white, and light blue. Skywarp's color scheme is altogether different, though, and you just can't help but notice it. Quite gorgeous, isn't he? Well, he thinks so, at least...

The Official Word:

Profile: Skywarp is the sneakiest of the Decepticons. On Cybertron he was known to appear out of nowhere in the middle of peaceful Autobot villages to rain terror and destruction upon them, if the mood hit him. He'll even use his teleportation powers to play a prank on a fellow Decepticon. Everyone enjoys this except the butt of his joke since Skywarp's sense of humor tends to be rather cruel and physically abusive. Skywarp isn't too smart and would be totally useless without the supervision of Megatron.

Abilities: Skywarp can reach a top speed of 1500 mph. But what makes him unique is his ability to instantly teleport himself a maximum distance of 2.5 miles. He also carries a heatseeking missile launcher and a variable-caliber machine gun.

Weaknesses: Skywarp's control of the accuracy of his teleportation power diminishes as the distance he teleports increases. As a result, if he's not too careful, he's likely to crash into things when he arrives at where he's teleporting. Not being too bright doesn't help him avoid these accidents either.

Miscellaneous:

Best Place to Skywarp-Watch:
There are a cute little Skywarp bits in the beginning of "Fire in the Sky" and "The Ultimate Doom," but his snarky side shows best in "Fire on the Mountain."
